One of my co-workers here in Houston is leaving on vacation this morning, flying into a little town called San Luis Obispo on the central coast of California (which is not too far away from my parents' house in Lompoc, for those of you who don't know). It's funny that the people who live where I live now are vacationing someplace I used to live and couldn't wait to get away from.

(throat clearing), some people prefer the cool, green coastal setting of the central coast to Houston. I'm just saying . . .
ReplyDeleteIt's like a juxtaposition. Tee hee.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm not saying that I wouldn't visit if I could, I'm saying it's kind of funny. And he keeps calling it "San Lu-ee Obispo," while I've always thought of it as "San Louis."
ReplyDeleteIs that how Louis is pronounced in Texan? How do they pronounce Lompoc?
ReplyDeleteYeah, tell this person it's "Lew-is"
ReplyDeleteOr they could just call it SLO (pronounced "slow"), it's a great place to vacation! Now that I don't live there and can appreciate it when I visit, I think what I miss most about the central coast is how many stretches of rural area there are. I really miss being able to see the stars, there's so much light pollution here that sometimes it makes me a little claustrophobic.
ReplyDeleteThey pronounce Lompoc how I tell them to pronounce Lompoc because no one's ever heard of it haha.
ReplyDeleteAnd Daniele: Unfortunately Houston has horrible light pollution, but I'll be down for a camping trip whenever you are. :)
